You’re Swamped: Will Hiring A Freelance Copywriter Create More Work?

does a freelance copywriter create more work for your marketing team

No two days are the same as a marketing lead. But they can all feel similarly stressful (been there). Outsourcing could lighten your load, but it could also add more to your list – briefing, managing, checking, and chasing. But is that always the way it is when you hire a freelance copywriter?

Not necessarily!

Find out what it’s like to work with me when you’re already swamped.

The moment most of my marketing manager clients hire me

You have endless tasks – updating the website, planning that email campaign, mapping out the customer journey, convincing finance to increase your budget, checking in on ads, turning half-baked ideas into blog articles, being dragged into meetings that could’ve been emails.

It’s precisely at this moment of overwhelm that most of my marketing manager clients hire me.

Something has to give – but they’re still concerned it won’t actually fix their problem, just create new ones.

When you’re juggling that much, you need freelancers who can quickly understand your situation and pick up the slack with minimal fuss and maximum results.

And that’s me!

Here’s how I make the process easy, calm, and actually fun when you hire me as your freelance copywriting partner.

1. We begin with a quick, focused chat

You tell me what you need, I ask smart questions, fill in the blanks, and get a real feel for your business, challenges, and goals.

No 40-slide brief required, no Google Drive full of background documents necessary – rough notes and rambling thoughts are enough for me to run with.

During our first call, I’ll quickly grasp what you need and be a calming, reassuring presence that makes everything feel doable.

2. You hand it over

Once we’ve agreed the scope of your project and set some timelines, I get started.

I have a short, simple onboarding process – welcome email, contract, invoice, and a short new client questionnaire.

For some projects, we may also use a market research questionnaire to get inside the mind of your customer – however, this takes minimal effort on your part.

I have your questionnaire ready to go – you simply circulate it to your contacts or I can do that for you.

You don’t have to chase me, micromanage, or check in daily. I’ve got structure, and I stick to it.

You’ll know:

  • What I’m doing
  • When I’m doing it
  • When you’ll expect your first draft

3. You get clean, strategic copy

how freelance copywriters support marketing teams

Your first copy draft is fully researched, written, proofread, and search engine optimised.

There may also be comments with explanations and further ideas from me to help you understand everything, communicate things to your team, or handle pushback from directors.

4. You give feedback, I don’t take it personally :)

Feedback is a normal part of the process, so I expect you to give comments and ask for amendments.

Truthfully, it’s rare for me to receive huge amounts of changes.

This is because I’m fast to grasp exactly what you need.

However, tweaks are natural and if for some reason it’s not exactly right or the goalposts have changed, we can discuss this and it’s not remotely awkward.

You’re not my first client – I’ve been doing this for a long time, so I don’t take feedback personally!

It’s your business and it’s your copy – if you need to make adjustments, that’s your prerogative.

You have one round of amends included in your initial project fee – so if you have various stakeholders who need to have their say, it’s important to make sure they all see it before feeding back to me so I can address everything in this single round of amends.

If things change and you need further changes, we can keep working on it – I’ll give you a price for the additional changes/time spent and make sure you can factor this into your budget.

5. We wrap things up

Once you’ve secured approval for our copy, you’re good to go!

Website copywriting – all website copy features SEO elements like title tags, internal and external linking, keywords, and meta descriptions, so you can upload it right away or hand it over to your web team or agency.

Blogs posts – once approved, I can upload blog posts to your website and even take care of image selection and alt tags – just let me know if you’d like me to handle this or prefer to do it internally.

Company LinkedIn posts – I can upload these to your company page to save you time and even circulate links to your team to prompt engagement.

Email campaigns – if you have email marketing platforms set up, I can schedule emails and newsletters in to save you the job.

Whatever makes your life easier, I’m your secret freelancer weapon to make it happen.

6. You keep using me to access high-quality copy on tap

Most of my clients continue working with me once they see how natural and effective it is.

So, even if we begin with a one-off or ad hoc project, there’s always the option to offload more of your copy-related tasks to me or discuss ways I can support you further.

The longer we work together, the more results you see – as consistency and quality pay off!
